Complementing our Hapkido training
Our core Hapkido classes already include ground self-defence, but most of the syllabus naturally focuses on standing and seated situations. Ground Combatives extends that training by helping students develop a deeper understanding of positional control, takedown defence, escapes, and practical responses on the ground.
The aim is not to turn students into sport grapplers. It is to strengthen their self-defence ability and give them more confidence when dealing with ground-based situations.
Who this class is for
This class is for Hapkido students who want to build stronger ground self-defence skills as part of their overall training.
To attend Hapkido Ground Combatives, students must:
-- Be enrolled in Hapkido
-- Be at least 13 years old
-- Usually be at Hapkido Blue Belt level or above
A self-defence focus
This class is designed to complement Hapkido, not replace it.
The emphasis is on practical self-defence rather than Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition or sport rolling. Students learn skills that support the wider Hapkido curriculum and help them deal more effectively with close-range and ground-based encounters.
Supported by experienced leadership
Our Ground Combatives training is supported by Grandmaster Fari Salievski of KMA Martial Arts Liverpool in Sydney. Grandmaster Fari holds 8th Dan in Hapkido and 3rd Dan in BJJ, and assists our instructors in delivering this program.
We use Fari’s FS BJJ system within Hapkido Ground Combatives because of its clear self-defence focus and its strong fit with our wider training philosophy.
